In my words By Mary Beth
My wedding Photography Begins
We had an interview and I left with crazy hope for the job. I follow up with Roger every day. Roger called and asked me to help with a wedding at the Breakers in West Palm Beach that Weekend.
You never forget your first. He said what made me different from other photographers he met with, was my enthusiasm , desire and the knowing exactly what I wanted in life.
He felt not taking no for an anwser, made for a great photographer. A big plus he said, in all his years of experience, He found woman come back with emotional pictures, that we shoot from the heart.
Men, he said come back with photos as if they report the wedding day. (His words) So there it began, my apprenticeship at Photomastrers Photography Studio. Not too long after, I was shooting my own weddings. What I found amazing and a key part of my success, was Roger sat me down after every wedding.
He had the whole stack of pictures from that weeks weddings .We went through hundreds of photos one at a time. Hours. He told me what could be better with each photo. Such as lighting, framing, or white balance, settings etc,
and why that would create a better wedding picture with all the photographer. I feel blessed to have had his interest in making me the photographer I am today.
I truly know the importance of the photographs that test the time of memories.
The day you think you know everything, that’s the day you best get out of the business he would say often. if you don’t get nervous as you you shoot your first shot of the day, again, time to leave the business.
I still get nervous everytime I take that first shot, then I rock!
As time went on I had and have the pleasure and honor of creating innovative, cutting edge, contemporary, documenetary, creative wedding images for wedding couples in all areas of the world. With their vision as well as my creativity
and know how from over a1000 events and weddings. The outcome is always an incredible experience for both of us.
I managed the Studio for years . Consequently Roger Retired and I bought the studio.
To this day 3 years after my mentor and best friend passed away, I hear him say in my ear, as he did before every single wedding I ever did for him,
“Dazzle em' with foot work
That saying today is inscripted on his headstone.
"I Dazzle em' with footwork "
